Andros South Lodge

Trip Summary:

Andros South Lodge is located in the remote settlement of Kemp’s Bay on the southeastern shore of South Andros Island. This particular area of Andros is home to an amazing number of tidal creeks and inland flats that provide incredible habitat for hungry bonefish. Peak Season is from November to early June. Andros South can accommodate 12 guests per week, all in single rooms.

Fishing & General Information:

LENGTH OF STAY
Bair's can accommodate any length of stay. Typical change-over days are Saturdays and Wednesdays.

THE FISHING
The majority of the flats of South Andros Island are very accommodating for wading, and it is not uncommon to leave the boat for hours to fish the expansive flats on foot. With extensive oceanside flats as well as inland creek flats, there are limitless options for exploring the area’s fishing. This diversity means that you never have to fish the same place twice and will always be able to find fresh fish. If you enjoy fishing from the boat there are many keys, shorelines, and creeks to keep you busy with shots at cruising bonefish.

The average size "schoolie" bonefish in the area will be in the two to four pound range. The larger single and double fish will weigh in between 5 and 10 pounds. By 8:00 AM each morning, you will be loaded up in the boat and will be casting at bones within 15 minutes to one hour - depending on the fishing area, winds, tides, and personal choices. After a full day of chasing bonefish you can finish the day with a cold Kalik at the local watering-hole, The Little Creek Bar, while your gear is being loaded up for the return trip to the lodge.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Anglers fish from 16-foot Dolphin Super Skiffs, complete with poling platforms, 85 HP Yamaha outboards, and spacious casting decks. They are roomy, fast and comfortable.

Accommodations:

THE LODGING
Andros South is a friendly, laid-back bonefishing lodge that concentrates on providing a fishing experience that is second to none. The lodge is situated on a beautiful white sand beach, which takes full advantage of the intoxicating trade winds of the Bahamas. After fishing, take a relaxing swim each evening or hone your casting skills while gazing out at azure blue water. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and air conditioned, and each feature a private bathroom and a warm relaxing shower. Probably the most enticing fact about the accommodations at Andros South is that each angler will have their own private room! Unless otherwise requested, each angler visiting the lodge will have single-occupancy accommodations - something that is both rare and difficult to find at most bonefish lodges. The dining room and outdoor patio are welcoming and laid back. They are the perfect place to enjoy cocktails, a good cigar, and great meals with friends. If you’re looking for a very comfortable place to spend a vacation fishing, relaxing, and enjoying a quiet island in the Bahamas, you will find all of the above at Andros South.

Travel Specifics:

HOW TO GET THERE
Bair's is a 20-minute drive from the airport in Congo Town on South Andros. There are several options for flying into Congo Town. Our recommended option for reaching this part of Andros Island is Lynx Air International. Lynx Air flies nonstop flights multiple times per week between Fort Lauderdale and Congo Town. Lynx Air's mid-day Saturday and Wednesday flights provide great flexibility for anglers traveling to Bair's. Lynx Air flies from the Fort Lauderdale International airport, allowing for easy connections with flights within the United States. Outbound guests clear US Customs in Fort Lauderdale, which is typically a smooth process. Tickets on Lynx Air can be booked online at http://www.lynxair.com/, or via telephone at 888-596-9247. Groups of more than 6 persons may also consider a private charter from Ft. Lauderdale. Yellow Dog works with several charter companies in Ft. Lauderdale and would be happy to work with you to arrange a direct charter flight. As a third option, two flights each day arrive from nearby Nassau on Western Air. These flights depart Nassau at 7:00 AM and 3:15 PM, and take 20 minutes. The flights return back to Nassau at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM respectively. Reservations can be made with Western Air at 242-377-2222 or by contacting Yellow Dog. It is important to note that Western Air accepts only cash for payment. When checking in with Western Air in Nassau, you will need $140 in cash (either US or Bahamian as $1 US = $1 Bahamian) to pay for your round-trip ticket. Once you arrive in Congo Town, a representative from Bair's Lodge will meet you at the airport for the short drive to the lodge.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
As of 2006, all U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within 6 months of trips dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in back, and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Yellow Dog can assist with the travel arrangements for all destinations that we offer! Contact Us for details on airfare, itineraries, and details.

ESSENTIAL GEAR
Bahamas Bonefishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8 and/or 9 weight depending on conditions. For calm, delicate presentations, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions and hard running Bonefish demand the best of your equipement. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test. You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Bahamas favorites. Crab patters can also be effective for both Bonefish and Permit. This is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared to make the most out of your fishing trip. Click here for the customized list of everything you need for the trip. Call or e-mail us and we'll be happy to assist you!

Non-Angling Activities:

Although Andros South is primarily a fishing destination, there is a beautiful beach for lounging, reading and relaxing!

Other Information / Testimonials:

The primary focus of Andros South is to provide the best possible bonefish experience in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. With one of the most experienced guide staffs in the area, you will be fishing this large and diverse bonefish habitat in the most effective manner possible. Along with having in-depth knowledge of the fishing grounds, the guide staff can also accommodate the inexperienced saltwater angler with instruction on casting, hooking, and fighting fish.
