Bairs Bonefish Lodge
Trip Summary:
Bair's prime location in South Andros, Bahamas (directly between
two of Andros’ largest inland flats systems) means long days on the
water and great habitat - without long runs to the fishing grounds!
The middle bight and south end of Andros are also easily accessed,
giving guides and guests unlimited are fishing options. Peak Season
is from late October to early June. Bairs can only accommodate a maximum
of 12 guests per week (double occupancy) and is typically booked well in
advance by repeat clients. Planning ahead with booking will ensure access
to this popular Bahamas destination.
Fishing & General
Information:
LENGTH OF STAY
Bair's can accommodate any length of stay. Typical change-over
days are Saturdays and Wednesdays.
THE FISHING
The flats of South Andros are some of the most un-pressured flats on
an island known as the "bonefish capital of the world". The location
of Bair's - surrounded by inland flats, creeks, the south end, the South
Bight, the West Side, and numerous mangrove lagoons - means that
the lodge can accommodate anglers who love to wade for bonefish, as
well as those who prefer to fish from the boat. The guides can customize
any fishing day to meet your expectations and requests. The sandy-white,
hard-bottomed flats of this area are vast and productive, meaning
that this is a particularly good area for those looking for great wade
fishing. The same characteristics also provides for consistent
fishing during most weather conditions. When wind is an issue,
the inland flats are more protected and calm, enabling the guides
to spot bonefish tailing in the shallows. Even on cloudy days, the
brilliant white sand flats make spotting fish considerably easier.
If you enjoy fishing from the boat there are many keys, shorelines,
and creeks to keep you busy with shots at larger, deep-water bonefish.
The average size bonefish in the area will be in the two to four-pound
range. These "smaller" fish inhabit the shallow inland flats and can
often-times be found in large schools - sometimes in the hundreds. A typical
day at Bair's consists of a morning run in the boat that varies
between fifteen minutes and one hour, depending on what you want to
do and where you want to fish. Once there, you typically fish your
way back towards the lodge throughout the course of the day. All
of the guides at Bair's are friendly, experienced and professional, and
all are certified by the Bahamian Guide Association. All the flats skiffs
have aluminum "lean bars" on the deck giving Bair's anglers more
stability and comfort for long days of fishing. There is always a fishing
and lodge manager on site to keep all aspects of the lodge running
smoothly and professionally.

Travel Specifics:
HOW TO GET THERE
Bair's is a 20-minute drive from the airport in Congo Town on South Andros. There are several
options for flying into Congo Town. Our recommended option for reaching this part of Andros Island
is Lynx Air International. Lynx Air flies nonstop flights multiple times per week between Fort Lauderdale
and Congo Town. Lynx Air's mid-day Saturday and Wednesday flights provide great flexibility for anglers
traveling to Bair's. Lynx Air flies from the Fort Lauderdale International airport, allowing for easy
connections with flights within the United States. Outbound guests clear US Customs in Fort Lauderdale,
which is typically a smooth process. Tickets on Lynx Air can be booked online at
http://www.lynxair.com/, or via telephone at
888-596-9247. Groups of more than 6 persons may also consider a private charter from Ft. Lauderdale.
Yellow Dog works with several charter companies in Ft. Lauderdale and would be happy to work with
you to arrange a direct charter flight. As a third option, two flights each day arrive from nearby
Nassau on Western Air. These flights depart Nassau at 7:00 AM and 3:15 PM, and take 20 minutes. The
flights return back to Nassau at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM respectively. Reservations can be made with
Western Air at 242-377-2222 or by contacting Yellow Dog. It is important to note that Western Air
accepts only cash for payment. When checking in with Western Air in Nassau, you will need $140 in
cash (either US or Bahamian as $1 US = $1 Bahamian) to pay for your round-trip ticket. Once you
arrive in Congo Town, a representative from Bair's Lodge will meet you at the airport for the short
drive to the lodge.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Yellow Dog can assist with the travel arrangements for all destinations that we offer! Contact Us for details on airfare, itineraries, and details.
ESSENTIAL GEAR
Bahamas Bonefishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8 and/or 9 weight depending on
conditions. For calm, delicate presentations, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions
and hard running Bonefish demand the best of your equipement. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag
systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating
Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test.
You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Bahamas favorites. Crab patters can also be effective for both Bonefish and Permit. This
is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared
to make the most out of your fishing trip.

Non-Angling Activities:
Although Bair's is primarily a fishing destination; there is a beautiful patio and grassy area behind the lodge for lounging, reading, or relaxing! Hammocks strung between palm trees are always a memorable place to pass the time and relax.
Other Information / Testimonials:
Bair's offers a fairly high-end and comfortable Caribbean lodge setting. The lodge provides anglers with spacious sitting areas, a complete fly tying bench, social dining area, and an outdoor patio with deck chairs and hammocks for post-fishing socializing. Pretty much every area of the lodge has an expansive eastern view of the flats and nearby tongue of the ocean. The grounds are private and quiet, providing guests with a very relaxing atmosphere. We recommend this destination to those seeking a well-run, high-end lodge that knows how to caters to clients who expect above-average service, fishing and amenities.
