Trip Summary:
Abaco Lodge is located on Schooner Bay - Abaco Island, Bahamas. Captain Clint Kemp, who has been guiding on Nassau (Yellow Dog’s Nassau Day Trips) has opened a fine new operation on Abaco Island between Sandy Point and Marsh Harbour. The Beach House is a spacious, well-appointed house that overlooks a beautiful beach on Abaco’s western shore.

THE FISHING
If you are seeking diversity in the flats, then this location is perfect for you. This destination sits in the middle of some of Abaco’s finest flats systems, thus offering anglers great diversity in the style of flats they can fish during their stay at the Beach House. Being located in the southern end of the Marls allows the guides to easily access all the flats towards the southern end of Acabo Island, with minimal running time in the boats. Clint’s head guide Paul Pinder is one of the most in demand and well respected guides in all of the Bahamas. Paul and his guide staff know this area very well. Since the Beach House in located between Marsh Harbour and Sandy Point, the guides have easy access to the finest flats around Abaco, such as Cherokee Sound, the Southern Marls, Sandy Point, and a few small islands off the mainland.
They prefer to make the 18 mile run to the small island if the weather permits, and we highly recommend taking the extra time to head out to these Oceanside cays. We found the fishing to be uncrowded and pristine, with excellent opportunities for big bonefish, occasional permit, and numerous other species. The flats are great for wade fishing and poling, so you can do either. The tides will dictate when and where to wade and fish from the boat. If you are seeking minimal running time in the boat to maximize your fishing time, they can easy use the boat ramp 3 miles from the Beach House. This ramp allows the guide to fish the flats between the Southern Marls and the Sandy Point area with NO running time in the boat. There are numerous places to wade fish on your own for arrival and departure days or if you wish to take a day off from guide fishing. We view this destination as a great place to experience the best of Abaco in a non-traditional lodge setting with some great people.

The new Action Craft skiffs that Capt Clint and his guides use are perfect for making the run to the outer islands as well as for poling the shallow waters closer to the mainland.

THE LODGING
This is a totally unique specialized destination for the Bahamas. This beach house sleeps 6 very comfortably, overlooks the ocean, and is close to Abaco’s finest flats fishing. The house is very nice, clean, well appointed, and spacious. The beach is 100 yards from the house. All meals are prepared by a local chef or Capt. Clint himself and is family style dining. There is a TV, A/C, and a washer dryer. You may access the internet at the Schooner Bay headquarters minutes from the lodge.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
All accommodations and meals at the guest house, daily guided fishing, on water custom lunches, bottled water, and airport transfers.
WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED
Airfare from home town to Marsh Harbour, overweight baggage charges, gratuities for guides and staff, and airport departure taxes which is now included in all commercial plane tickets.
DEPOSIT INFORMATION
A 50% deposit (per angler) of the total package cost for each trip is due to Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures (YDFA) within 10 days of booking to secure the reservation. Guides and dates cannot be held or reserved without a deposit. YDFA reserves the right to charge a handling fee of $100 per person for date changes after the initial reservation has been made. Full payment is due 90 days prior to departure.

Travel Specifics:
HOW TO GET THERE
Abaco Island is one of the easiest islands access in the Bahamas. Direct daily flights from Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, Miami, and St. Augustine to the Marsh Harbour International Airport are available through Continental, American, Bahamas Air, and numerous smaller carriers. Bahamas Air and Abaco air offer daily flights from Nassau directly into Marsh Harbour as well. Delta is looking to add direct flights from Atlanta and LaGuardia sometime soon! You may also fly into Treasure Cay, which is only 45 minutes from the lodge. Marsh Harbour is 20 minutes from Marsh Harbour International Airport (MHH).
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
As of 2006, all U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within 6 months of trips dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in back, and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way.

ESSENTIAL GEAR
Bahamas Bonefishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8 and/or 9 weight depending on conditions. For calm, delicate presentations, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions and hard running Bonefish demand the best of your equipment. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test. You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Bahamas favorites. Crab patters can also be effective for both Bonefish and Permit. This is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared to make the most out of your fishing trip.

Non-Angling Activities:
This is a fishing focused destination. The beach is steps away from the Beach House and is one of the most beautiful beaches we have experienced near a bonefish lodge. You could use this house as a family or couples vacation. Marsh Harbour is 30 minutes from the lodge and offers many tourist activities and shopping. Rental cars are available but not needed for anglers seeking just a fishing trip.
