Nassau Day Trips

Trip Summary:

If you are visiting Nassau or Paradise Island for a family vacation or for business, then this day trip option is the perfect way to sneak in a little time on the flats. The bonefish are large, the guide is as good as you'll find anywhere in the Bahamas, and the equipment is first rate.

Fishing & General Information:

LENGTH OF STAY
Trips and packages of any length can be arranged. All trips are completely customized. Call Yellow Dog for details.

THE FISHING
Captain Kemp will choose the fishing ground for the day on either the protected side of the island or on flats closer to your accommodations or the airport, depending on your situation, schedule and timeframe. This makes for more time fishing and less time driving! Captain Clint Kemp uses various boat launches throughout the area, as well as a private boat launch that allows access to flats that usually require a long oceanside run. (This private boat launch is only 15 minutes from the Nassau International Airport and Cable Beach.) Captain Kemp will pick you up and drop you off where it best suits your needs.

Most of the flats close to Nassau and Paradise Island are protected by a reef, resulting in calmer, clear waters. These flats stretch along the mainland of New Providence where large, deep water bonefish come to feed. Numerous outlying cays and small islands make for scenic vistas consisting of white sand flats and a range of blue and green hues. These island flats are also perfect for large schools of bonefish and can be fished while wading or fished from the boat. During windy days, you can expect to fish the bays, coves, and inland lagoons. These shallow flats are protected and ideal for stalking tailing fish and bones pushing water. When the weather is settled, fishing the deeper shoreline flats from the skiff can typically produce numerous shots at trophy bonefish. The mottled bottom and turtle grass that cover these deeper flats attract bonefish that are feeding throughout the water column. The average bonefish is three to five pounds and during the right tides and weather, you can expect some good shots at larger fish. Other species of fish include barracuda, sharks, jacks, and occasional permit and tarpon.

Captain Kemp is a pleasure to spend time with and well versed in both the history and current events of the Bahamas. He provides his customers with a fun and educational experience that is delivered with a high level of personalized service. Captain Kemp provides quality equipment for fly or spin fishing as well as flies or lures, transportation, bottled water, sodas, and lunch. He is an excellent instructor and thrives on educating anglers of varied skill levels.

TESTIMONIALS
”I was very impressed with Captain Kemp’s professionalism and knowledge of the area. He is a lot of fun to spend a day with. The size of the bonefish exceeded my expectations. After flying over Nassau for years and checking out the flats, I now know they do indeed hold fish. This is an excellent opportunity to squeeze in a day or two of fishing when in Nassau or when passing through to another island."
- Bob M.
