Rickmon Bonefish Lodge

Trip Summary:

Sitting directly on a beach overlooking a picturesque flat, Rickmon Bonefish Lodge was built in 1999 and opened for business in 2000. This lodge is located less then a three-minute boat ride from great flats and tailing bones. Rickmon Bonefish Lodge offers year-round fishing and guest accommodations. October through mid-July is peak season for fishing in the Bahamas, when the weather and water temperatures are ideal. Additional fishing opportunities for tarpon, permit, barracuda, jacks, and snapper are available. The lodge has eleven bedrooms and can accommodate a total of 22 guests. Rickmon Bonefish Lodge is a perfect place for a group, family or hosted trip.

Fishing & General Information:

LENGTH OF STAY
Trips of any length are available, and the convenience of the Bahamas makes Rickmon and Abaco the perfect getaway for a week-long fishing trip or a quick weekend escape.

THE FISHING
The flats of Abaco, most of which are easily waded, are made up of white sand and turtle grass. Bonefish average three to five pounds, and fish in the double-digits are found on a regular basis. Many will attest that some of the biggest bonefish in the world are found along the coast of Abaco. Off the west coast of Abaco lie Gorda Cay and Mores Island. These islands are renowned for holding large bonefish and permit on beautiful, sandy-white flats. They are recognized as two of the best places in the Bahamas to specifically target permit. On calm days, these islands are an easy run from the lodge and well worth the trip!

Sandy Point is a secluded fishing village with no other bonefish lodges in the area. So, if you are tired of crowded and pressured flats, this destination is for you! The lodge has the closest access to the interior of Abaco and the surrounding keys. It is very rare to see boats that are not from Rickmon's and the guides work as a team, so you will most likely see no other traffic.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Guides utilize high-end 16-18 foot skiffs complete with poling platforms, 90-140HP Yamaha outboards, and spacious casting decks.

THE LODGING

ESSENTIAL GEAR
Bahamas Bonefishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8 and/or 9 weight depending on conditions. For calm, delicate presentations, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions and hard running Bonefish demand the best of your equipment. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test. You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Bahamas favorites. Crab patters can also be effective for both Bonefish and Permit. This is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared to make the most out of your fishing trip. Non-Angling Activities:

Snorkeling, deep sea fishing, diving, beaching, and bird watching are other activities available at Sandy Point, and the white sand beaches adjacent to the lodge are a great place to relax.

Other Information / Testimonials:

Each morning, coffee will be available in the dining room beginning at 6:00 AM. Breakfast begins at 7:00 AM, and the fishing day normally runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A hearty lunch is usually packed in a cooler and taken aboard the boat. After a long day of fishing, you will return to the lodge to relax in your room or on the expansive deck overlooking the water. Dinner, consisting of such Bahamian dishes as conch chowder, lobster, grouper, chicken, and fresh vegetables, is served around 7:00 PM.
