Permit and tarpon are plentiful, with opportunities for bonefish, snook, barracuda, jacks, and snapper.
Fishing & General
Information:
LENGTH OF STAY
Standard package is a seven night / six fishing day package, although trips of any length can be arranged.
THE FISHING
Placencia is perhaps best known for the large numbers of permit that inhabit the southern area’s huge chain of cayes and flats, most of which are a 30 to 45-minute run from town. Surrounded on all sides by deep, blue water, the healthy sand and turtlegrass flats are home to some of the largest permit found anywhere. A number of the mangrove islands and mainland lagoons hold good numbers of snook, as well as tarpon ranging in size from 10 to over 50 pounds. Schools of bonefish can also be found throughout the cayes for those anglers interested in pursuing the elusive grand slam.
This area of Southern Belize is blessed with a wide range of fishing contexts including extensive saltwater flats, mangrove islands, the largest Barrier Reef in the Western Hemisphere, and a plenitude of backcountry rivers, lagoons, and freshwater lakes. There are few places in the Caribbean that offers a greater variety of fishing locations than Southern Belize.
BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
OFFERED
The Inn at Robert's Grove has purchased new skiffs outfitted for fly fishing and light tackle saltwater fishing. These 23' skiffs are outfitted with cushion seats, a casting platform, polling platforms, dry storage for cameras and clothing, VHF radios, and 4-stroke outboard engines.
Accommodations:
THE LODGING
All rooms and suites have a king or twin beds and a futon couch for an additional person. Rooms overlook the pool and beach, and all feature private bath, air conditioning, ceiling fans and private terrace. All are equipped with jalousie windows, screens, cable TV, safe, phone, and small refrigerator. Decorated with handcrafted furniture in native woods, woven fabrics and rugs, Mexican terra cotta tiled floors, original artwork and antiques. The suites feature all of the same amenities as the standard rooms, with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a living room with futon couches, and a kitchenette. The bedrooms and living room have separate access to decks that overlook the beach and sea. Overall, the accommodations are very nice - more in line with the amenities more-often found at resorts rather than the typical fishing camp.

ESSENTIAL GEAR
Belize fly fishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8, 9 and 10 weight depending on
conditions. For calm, delicate presentations to Bonefish, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions
and hard running Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon demand the best of your equipement. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag
systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating
Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test.
You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Belize Bonefish favorites. Crab patters are very effective for Belize Permit. Typical Tarpon patterns are also a staple for Belize Tarpon. Clousers and snook patterns are also effective in the rivers, creeks and mangrove lagoons. This is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared
to make the most out of your fishing trip.
