Fishing & General
Information:
LENGTH OF STAY
Standard packages are 7 night / 6 day packages. Shorter packages of 4 night / 3 can be arranged. Please call Yellow Dog for details.
THE FISHING
The concept of Three Amigos is simple: With the benefit of The Host, the motherboat, you will wake up every morning on new flats. This level of fishing diversity is something that no land-based lodge can really offer. That means that as a guest of Three Amigos, you can start earlier and finish later than anyone else.
As far as the permit fishing goes, this part of the coast offers some excellent habitat and flats that are home to fish ranging in size from five to over 30 pounds. Permit in this area can be found throughout the year. For anglers interested in chasing snook, the rivers, creeks and mangrove lagoons fished from the live-aboard lodge offer some of the best possibilities in the region.
BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
OFFERED
Guides in Southern Belize fish from 23-foot pangas equiped with 40-65 hp motors. Three Amigos has a complete selection of loaner rods and reels. If you plan on using their equipment, please notify us ahead of time and we will have everything ready and waiting upon your arrival (that way you can travel light with no additional gear). There is a basic selection of flies, leaders and tippets for sale aboard the boat as well.
Accommodations:
THE LODGING
Accommodations with Three Amigos is aboard their mothership, "The Host,” a spacious and comfortable "mobile lodge" that transports up to 8 anglers a week to water that no existing lodge can realistically reach. The concept with this operation is that every morning you will wake up to new flats right outside your window. With no long rides to reach the fishing grounds, you can simply step into your guide's boat and you are on the flats and fishing within minutes.
At over 50 feet long with almost 20 feet of beam, The Host offers more than enough room to relax on one of several outside decks and in the main salon area. The interior of the boat is air conditioned, including all sleeping cabins, the dining room, and the bar. The floors are new hardwood, and the interior of the boat is fresh and clean. The Host has a weekly guest limit of eight, as they are committed to working with small, customized groups. This is a number that allows you the utmost privacy and unlimited, unrestricted fishing every day of your trip. And when you’re done fishing, it’s all about the service. Great food, and warm, welcoming staff, and an unlimited bar. The Host is no ordinary motherboat.
Although fairly tight in the living quarters, the mothership is not claustrophobic. She’s a newly designed displacement trawler with no mold (sadly, with some liveaboard operations, that can be a problem). And while you’re sleeping away in your air-conditioned berth each night, The Host will be moving closer to that next great flat, where you can wake up in peace, enjoy a full, hot breakfast, and step into your guide boat right from The Host’s ample deck.

ESSENTIAL GEAR
Belize fly fishing gear should include 9' Fly Rods in both 8, 9 and 10 weight depending on
conditions. For calm, delicate presentations to Bonefish, a 7 weight Fly Rod can be used. Saltwater conditions
and hard running Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon demand the best of your equipement. Quality anodized reels with smooth drag
systems, larger arbors, and capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound test backing. Floating
Saltwater Fly line with fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 9' to 12' in 10, 12, 15 and 20 lb. test.
You should also have tippet ranging from 8 lb. to 15 lb. test. Smaller shrimp patterns in tan and pink are Belize Bonefish favorites. Crab patters are very effective for Belize Permit. Typical Tarpon patterns are also a staple for Belize Tarpon. Clousers and snook patterns are also effective in the rivers, creeks and mangrove lagoons. This is a remote tropical destination with limited/no opportunity to purchase gear so you need to come prepared
to make the most out of your fishing trip.

Other Information / Testimonials:
The climate in Belize is subtropical, with continuous, prevailing breezes from the Caribbean Sea. The country has an average temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity is nicely tempered by the ocean breezes. During the summer months, the temperature rarely exceeds 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter lows are seldom below 65 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night. On the flats, the water temperature will vary between 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 84 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Annual rainfall ranges from 50 inches in the north to 170 inches in the south. Although the rainy season is usually between June and August and the dry season is between February and May, global weather changes are making historical predictions somewhat invalid. At the end of October, the weather does become cooler, and from November to February, it is pleasant with showers of rain. Average humidity throughout the year is 85%.
